RULES OF THE ROAD

RULE 1. RIDE SAFE.

RULE 2. RIDE SAFE.

and

RULE 3. RIDE SAFE

GROUP RIDING RULES:

For safety purposes, ride in two columns in a staggered formation - NOT SIDE BY SIDE - Because you lose your space cushion, your place to go if something goes wrong.

The ride leader rides at the front in the left side of the lane closest to the center of the road. Do not pass the ride leader.  If he slows down to let others catch up, everyone should slow down as well.

Use standard hand signals. If you use your turn signals remember to cancel them after the turn.

When the ride leader gives a hand signal, each rider repeats the signal and holds it for a few seconds so that it can be seen by riders near the rear. Use hand signals as your turn signals are not visible to those in the back.

After the ride starts, don't change columns - left to right or vise versa.  If someone leaves the group, the entire left or right column should move up to fill-in the vacant spot.

Don't make a "right-turn-on-red" unless you are sure that everyone else can make it.  Don’t run red lights.  If the pack gets split at a light, the lead part of the pack will either slow down or pull off the road until everyone catches up.

When pulling into the ride destination, merge into single file. The ride leader should try to find a spot where all bikes can park together. Stay in formation until the person in front of you is able to park and don’t go shooting off in all directions -it makes the group look undisciplined and amateurish.

If you are a new rider or feel uncomfortable riding with a group, stay near to the back.  Remember everyone was new at one time.

Anyone following in a car should drive with their lights on and act as the rear pivot during lane changes.

If someone breaks down or has to pull out of formation, the last person will pull over with him or her. Everyone else stays in line until there is a safe place for the whole group to pull over.

REMEMBER
KNOW YOUR LIMITATIONS
AND RIDE WITHIN THOSE LIMITATIONS.

THE BEST RIDE
IS WHEN EVERYONE RIDES SAFE
AND ARRIVES IN ONE PIECE.
